Good mental health is a sense of wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem. It means we can:

  • form positive relationships
  • reach our potential
  • deal with life’s challenges.

We can improve our wellbeing by:

  • expressing our feelings
  • doing things we enjoy
  • exercising or being active
  • talking to someone we trust
  • eating healthy meals
  • sleeping well
  • setting realistic goals
  • learning new skills.

1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime.  This significantly affects how a person thinks, behaves and interacts with other people.
Support and understanding from family and friends can help people to get better and enjoy life.  Getting early help from a GP, health worker or support group is useful for sorting out problems.
